Position SummaryThe Gender, Safeguarding & Inclusion Advisor will provide technical guidance to ensure that gender equality, safeguarding, and social inclusion are effectively integrated across project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, staffing, training, and partnerships.

About CVDA

Common Vision for Development Association (CVDA) is an Ethiopian resident charity working in areas including health, education, agriculture, environment, livelihoods, WASH, humanitarian response, community-based peacebuilding, and good governance.

CVDA is currently preparing to implement a women’s economic empowerment project in seven woredas of the Somali Region. The organization is seeking a competent professional to provide technical leadership on gender, safeguarding, and social inclusion.

Position Summary

The Gender, Safeguarding & Inclusion Advisor will provide technical guidance to ensure that gender equality, safeguarding, and social inclusion are effectively integrated across project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, staffing, training, and partnerships.

The position will support women’s economic empowerment, women’s leadership and participation, inclusive programming, safeguarding systems, and evidence-based learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure gender, safeguarding, and social inclusion are mainstreamed throughout project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, staffing, training, and partnerships.
  • Provide technical guidance to improve women’s participation in businesses, leadership, and decision-making.
  • Support the development of project indicators related to gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and inclusion.
  • Conduct gender, safeguarding, and social inclusion assessments, reviews, and audits.
  • Identify strategies to increase participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups.
  • Provide technical guidance to project staff, government stakeholders, and local institutions.
  • Build staff capacity on gender and social inclusion.
  • Work with the MEL team to promote inclusive data collection, gender-disaggregated analysis, and reporting.
  • Document good practices, lessons learned, and successful approaches.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of organizational policies and response mechanisms related to safeguarding and inclusion.
  • Coordinate with other technical advisors to ensure inclusive design and implementation of economic empowerment interventions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree: At least 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree: At least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant fields include:
    • Public Health
    • Sociology
    • Gender Studies
    • Social and Behavioural Sciences
    • Other relevant disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to lead collection, analysis, and use of information from multiple sources.
  • Technical expertise in addressing harmful gender norms and preventing/responding to gender-based violence.
  • Experience addressing vulnerabilities affecting adolescent girls and young women.
  • Experience engaging men and boys in gender-related programming.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding standards and incident response protocols is an advantage.
  • Experience providing technical coaching and mentorship.
  • Strong ability to write, compile, and edit learning documents.
  • Proficiency in English, Amharic, and Somali, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to travel within project implementation areas.
