Job Description

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), established in 1935, is one of Ethiopia’s oldest and largest humanitarian organizations. ERCS provides emergency response, ambulance and first aid services, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation support, disaster risk reduction, and other humanitarian services across the country.

ERCS works with government institutions, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partner National Societies, volunteers, and communities.

Job Summary

The Senior Inventory Controller and Inspection Officer will oversee the management, tracking, control, and inspection of inventory and movable long-term assets at the National Secretariat.

The position will ensure accurate inventory records, effective stock control, proper warehouse management, regular stocktaking, and timely reconciliation of physical stock against inventory records. The officer will also inspect incoming items, monitor stock levels, identify discrepancies, and report damaged, misappropriated, or irregular items for appropriate action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control incoming and outgoing movements of stocks and movable long-term assets and maintain appropriate movement records.
  • Ensure bin cards and stock cards are properly maintained for inventory items.
  • Participate in scheduled and surprise stocktaking exercises and reconcile discrepancies between physical counts and inventory records.
  • Maintain updated inventory records for warehouse items, including make, model, user branch, and other relevant details.
  • Maintain and update vehicle inventory and roadworthiness information.
  • Classify and codify store items and maintain appropriate inventory cards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure appropriate stock availability.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock transfers and cycle counts.
  • Identify properties that are misappropriated, abused, damaged, or otherwise require attention and report them for repair or replacement.
  • Inspect and verify incoming procured stock and long-term assets against specifications and supporting documents.
  • Review inventory documentation and investigate quantity discrepancies between physical stock and records.
  • Monitor minimum and buffer stock levels and initiate procurement requisitions when items reach reorder levels.
  • Prepare reports on stock movements, stocktaking discrepancies, irregularities, and other inventory-related matters.
  • Oversee inventory and supply chain management in accordance with ERCS guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by the Warehouse and Property Administration Division Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Second or First Degree in:
    • Materials Management
    • Inventory Management
    • Logistics and Supply Chain Management
    • Accounting
    • Management
    • Business Management
    • Business Administration
    • Or a related field
  • 6–8 years of relevant work experience, depending on educational qualification.
  • At least 3–4 years of experience in a senior-level position.
