Job Description
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is inviting applications from eligible Ethiopian nationals for an Intern (Procurement) position in Addis Ababa.
The eight-month internship will provide practical experience in procurement operations, vendor management, procurement data analysis, reporting, digital procurement processes, stakeholder engagement, and process improvement within WFP Ethiopia’s Supply Chain and Procurement Unit.
The intern will work under the supervision of the Head of Procurement and support accurate, timely, and compliant procurement and supplier-management processes.
Key Responsibilities
Vendor Onboarding & Supplier Data Management
- Support vendor onboarding and registration through applicable WFP platforms and workflows.
- Review vendor submissions for completeness and consistency.
- Maintain vendor onboarding trackers and follow up on pending or incomplete cases.
- Support accurate filing and management of vendor records.
- Protect confidential and commercially sensitive information.
Procurement Operational Support
- Gather and organize supplier, market, and procurement information.
- Assist with procurement documents, correspondence, evaluation files, presentations, and tracking sheets.
- Monitor assigned procurement activities and update status trackers.
- Identify overdue inputs, data gaps, and potential delivery risks.
- Maintain complete and audit-ready electronic procurement records.
Data Analysis, Reporting & Dashboards
- Extract, clean, reconcile, and organize procurement and vendor data.
- Prepare basic analyses on vendor onboarding, procurement pipelines, lead times, ageing, and supplier performance.
- Support monthly and quarterly procurement reports.
- Assist with Excel/SharePoint trackers and simple dashboards.
- Identify missing, inconsistent, or duplicate data and support corrections.
Digital Procurement & Process Improvement
- Support users and suppliers with routine digital procurement processes.
- Document system usability issues and recurring process challenges.
- Help map procurement and vendor-management workflows.
- Contribute to checklists, templates, guidance notes, and process-improvement tools.
- Support testing and enhancement of procurement tools when required.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Support orientation and training sessions for procurement colleagues, requesting units, and suppliers.
- Maintain professional communication with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Prepare meeting notes, action trackers, and follow-up summaries.
- Collaborate with Procurement, Programme, Logistics, Finance, Legal, IT, and other relevant functions.
Compliance & Risk Awareness
- Follow WFP procurement rules, principles, internal controls, and delegated authorities.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with data-protection requirements.
- Disclose and escalate actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest.
- Flag suspected irregularities, control gaps, or supplier-related risks.
- Maintain impartial and professional conduct.
Qualifications & Eligibility
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme at a recognized university and have completed at least two years of study, with classes attended within the past 12 months; or
- Currently enrolled in a graduate programme such as a Master’s degree, with classes attended within the past 12 months; or
- Recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme, having graduated within six months before applying and attended university classes during the final 12 months of enrolment.

Additional Requirements
- Ethiopian nationality.
- Fluency in English and Amharic, both written and spoken.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with SharePoint or dashboards is an advantage.
- Ability to work at the assigned duty station.
- Applicants must not be the son, daughter, brother, or sister of a WFP employee.
- Educational credentials must be from recognized institutions.
