Autoclave Machine Operator – Teklehaimanot General Hospital

The successful candidate will operate and monitor autoclave equipment, maintain sterilization records, perform quality-control checks, support infection-control procedures, and coordinate with surgical, nursing, and central supply teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor autoclave machines, including steam, chemical, or plasma systems.
• Clean, inspect, assemble, and package instruments before sterilization.
• Monitor sterilization cycles, including temperature, pressure, and time.
• Maintain accurate sterilization logs and documentation.
• Perform biological and chemical indicator testing to verify sterilization effectiveness.
• Report failed tests, equipment malfunctions, and other issues promptly.
• Conduct routine daily, weekly, and monthly autoclave maintenance checks.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and coordinate repairs with biomedical engineering.
• Follow hospital safety, infection-control, and hazardous-material protocols.
• Ensure proper handling and disposal of contaminated items.
• Coordinate with operating room staff, nursing units, and central supply for timely delivery of sterile instruments.
• Assist with inventory management and proper storage of sterile supplies.
• Support improvements to sterilization and reprocessing workflows.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on sterilization procedures and equipment when required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Certificate in Sterile Processing, Medical Technology, or a related field.
• CRCST (Central Sterile Processing) certification or equivalent is mandatory.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is highly desirable.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital sterilization department.
• Previous autoclave operation experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of infection-control standards and sterilization principles.

• Ability to interpret sterilization indicators, equipment readings, and load parameters.
• Ability to evaluate sterilization cycles and make appropriate adjustments.

• Ability to follow healthcare regulations, infection-control standards, and safety procedures.
• Ability to operate sterilization equipment according to established protocols.
