Finance Assistant - Save the Children

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure payments are supported by complete, correct, relevant, and properly approved documents.
• Collect programme/working advances and make authorized payments according to SCI financial procedures.
• Ensure payment documents are stamped "Save the Children Paid."
• Summarize expenses using the appropriate expense codes.
• Ensure project advances are settled on time before requesting additional advances.
• Deduct applicable government withholding tax from service payments.
• Ensure all transactions have complete and valid supporting documents.
• Deposit unused project advance cash into the SCI bank account daily.
• Facilitate and settle travel advances for staff based outside the PO.
• Properly document, file, scan, and upload financial documents to the SCI Document Archiving System.
• Record financial transactions in GLACOS daily.
• Make collections and payments against serially pre-numbered cash receipt and payment vouchers.
• Safeguard cash, cheques, and CPOs.
• Conduct weekly and monthly cash counts.
• Maintain petty cash and prepare cash reports with supporting documentation.
• Reconcile cash accounts and regularly update the cash book.
• Prepare financial documentation for internal and external audits.
• Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.

Required Qualifications

🎓 Education:
First Degree or Diploma in:

• Accounting
• Business Administration
• Banking and Finance
• Or a related finance field

💼 Experience:

• Diploma holders: Minimum 2 years of finance experience
• Degree holders: Minimum 1 year of finance experience

Essential Experience & Skills

• Experience with financial disbursement activities in an NGO setting.
• Knowledge of project funding and compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting workshops, training, and other events.
• Willingness to work weekends and outside normal working hours when required.
• Willingness to undertake extensive field travel.
• Good understanding of project implementation processes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong written and verbal English and Amharic skills.
• Good knowledge of business terminology.
• Strong computer skills, particularly MS Excel and MS Word.
• Ability to travel as required by the project office.

Desirable

• Previous NGO experience.
• Experience working in complex and multicultural working environments.
