Job Description
Job SummaryThe General Mechanic will be responsible for fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical components and equipment. The successful candidate should have practical experience in workshop operations, metal fabrication, welding techniques, and machine shop activities while ensuring quality production and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fabrication, fitting, assembly, installation, and repair of metal structures and mechanical components.
- Conduct TIG, MIG, and Arc welding on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium materials.
- Cut, fabricate, assemble, and modify metal materials according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Operate lathe, milling, drilling, and other workshop machines to produce mechanical components.
- Manufacture shafts, bushes, flanges, machine parts, and industrial components within required tolerances.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and fabrication designs.
- Use digital calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools for quality control.
- Perform grinding, finishing, polishing, and inspection of completed products.
- Carry out routine maintenance and proper handling of workshop machinery and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Follow company health and safety procedures.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members to meet production targets.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Level III/IV Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor's Degree in General Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Metal Fabrication, Welding, Machining, or related technical fields.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years practical experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or engineering workshops.
- Proven experience in TIG, MIG, and Arc welding.
- Practical experience operating lathe and milling machines.
Required Skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of fabrication and machining techniques.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
- Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment.
