Linguistic Data Review Support – Afaan Oromo-Gheero

Target Dialects and Locations

Applicants should specify the Afaan Oromo dialect they speak and the relevant location or region.

Central / Tulama: Finfinnee, Ambo, Waliso, Fiche, Bishoftu, and surrounding areas.

South-Western / Macca: Jimma, Metu, Bedele, and surrounding areas.

South-East / Arsi: Asella, Shashamane, Bale Robe, and surrounding areas.

Eastern / Hararghe: Harar, Chiro, Dire Dawa, and surrounding areas.

Western Oromia / Wollega: Nekemte, Gimbi, Dembidolo, and surrounding areas.

Southern / Borana: Yabelo, Negele Borana, Bule Hora, and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

Translate, localize, and improve materials in the target dialect while preserving linguistic nuances and contextual meaning.

Review and validate submissions for dialect consistency, Qubee orthography, and compliance with project guidelines.

Identify and correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and typographical errors.

Detect and remove duplicate entries and other inconsistencies in datasets.

Compare spoken audio with transcribed text to verify completeness and accuracy.

Flag submissions that do not meet project guidelines or linguistic quality standards.

Annotate linguistic data accurately and consistently.

Identify recurring contributor errors and report findings to support improved data collection and retraining.

Participate in feedback sessions, discussions, and reporting activities.

Collaborate with team members to support smooth project execution.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Native or professional proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding Afaan Oromo, including the relevant regional dialect.

Strong command of Qubee orthography and the ability to identify subtle differences in spelling, vowel length, gemination, and tonal shifts.

Excellent attention to detail when reviewing complex linguistic datasets.

Previous experience in translation, localization, proofreading, linguistic data review, or annotation is an advantage.

Ability to use mobile applications and computer-based data-labeling platforms.

Proficiency in Google Workspace tools for collaboration, documentation, data organization, and task tracking.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in Afaan Oromo.

Fluency in English and Amharic.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Access to a functional smartphone and computer.

Educational Requirements

A diploma or bachelor's degree in Language Studies, Linguistics, or a related field with a focus on Afaan Oromo is preferred.

Additional Advantages

Previous experience in Afaan Oromo translation and linguistic data review.

Familiarity with dialect-specific language use and linguistic quality-control processes.
