Job Description
Marie Stopes International Ethiopia is seeking a qualified and experienced Neonatal Nurse to provide specialized nursing care to newborn infants, particularly premature, ill, or high-risk neonates requiring specialized medical attention.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, monitor, and manage neonatal nursing services.
- Provide specialized nursing care and support to neonates.
- Provide neonatal resuscitation when required.
- Assess patients and provide care within the authorized professional scope.
- Secure IV lines and collect blood samples for laboratory analysis.
- Operate and monitor neonatal ICU equipment.
- Identify and respond to the emotional and psychosocial needs of families.
- Handle, register, screen, and provide appropriate information to clients and patients.
- Support ANC, IPC, PNC, counseling, rounds, and inpatient nursing services.
- Assist doctors during theatre procedures and follow required clinical safety measures.
- Provide MCH and immunization services.
- Provide health education and information to patients and families.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and prioritize patients' interests.
- Ensure proper receipt, storage, replenishment, and safe keeping of medicines and medical supplies.
- Dispense medicines according to authorized prescriptions and organizational procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of drug sales and stock.
- Participate in regular stock-taking and audits.
- Prepare and submit monthly and other required reports.
- Maintain high standards of clinical and nursing care.
- Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- BSc or Diploma/Level IV in Neonatal Nursing.
Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience for BSc holders.
- At least 4 years of experience for Diploma holders.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in neonatal nursing procedures, including resuscitation, ventilation, and intensive care.
- Excellent communication and family-support skills.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to neonatal and family care.
- Ability to assess situations quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong documentation and adherence to clinical protocols.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
