Job Description
The Environment and Climate Research Center (ECRC) at the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on a six-month research project focusing on the economics of climate change adaptation in Africa under the Raising Adaptation Impact and Ambition (RAIA) initiative.
The researcher will lead quantitative analysis on adaptation benefits and cost-effectiveness, combining household and agricultural survey data with historical and projected climate data. The role involves econometric analysis, data management, climate-damage estimation, research dissemination, and contribution to policy-oriented research outputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct analytical datasets by merging LSMS household/plot-level agricultural data with climate,temperature, rainfall, and agroecological data.
- Clean and code survey data and conduct quantitative analysis.
- Specify, estimate, and validate Ricardian econometric models of farm net revenue based on temperature and rainfall anomalies.
- Produce climate-damage estimates disaggregated by farming system, region, and agroecological zone.
- Lead quantitative analysis on adaptation benefits and cost-effectiveness.
- Apply impact evaluation methods and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) tools.Support financing-gap calculations and scenario analysis.
- Work with large household survey datasets, including LSMS-ISA data.
- Analyze geospatial and climate datasets where applicable.
- Provide supervision and technical support to research assistants.
- Present preliminary findings during project inception, validation, and stakeholder workshops.
- Contribute to policy briefs, technical notes, and peer-reviewed journal publications.
- Work closely with the GESI research team and other project researchers.
Qualifications & Experience
- PhD in Economics, Agricultural/Environmental Economics, Applied Statistics, or a closely related field.
- Strong applied econometrics skills, including experience with Stata.
- Experience working with large household survey datasets such as LSMS-ISA is preferred.
- Experience with geospatial and climate data is preferred.
- Experience with impact evaluation methods.
- Knowledge of Ricardian/hedonic models and climate-damage analysis.
- Strong technical writing and research skills.Experience in data cleaning, coding, and quantitative analysis.
- Experience supporting or supervising research assistants.
- At least one published article in a peer-reviewed journal is required/preferred.
