About the JobVSO Ethiopia is recruiting an experienced Project Officer – Gender & Safeguarding to provide technical and operational support on gender equality, social inclusion, youth empowerment, disability inclusion, and safeguarding across the iWork program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor gender and safeguarding plans.
  • Integrate gender equality and social inclusion into project planning and implementation.
  • Promote meaningful participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable groups.
  • Engage government offices, communities, education institutions, TVETs, enterprises, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct training on gender, disability inclusion, safeguarding, PSEA, child protection, GBV prevention, and codes of conduct.
  • Conduct safeguarding risk assessments and monitor mitigation measures.
  • Conduct field visits and partner safeguarding assessments.
  • Support safeguarding due diligence for partners and external stakeholders.
  • Support safe identification, referral, and follow-up of safeguarding concerns.
  • Maintain confidentiality and survivor-centered approaches.
  • Collect and analyze gender- and age-disaggregated data.
  • Prepare project, donor, and organizational reports.
  • Document lessons learned and good practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Development Studies, Law, Public Health, Rural Development, or related field.
  • Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Significant professional experience in gender, inclusion, safeguarding, PSEA, child protection, GBV, or related fields.
  • Experience with NGOs, development organizations, or donor-funded projects preferred.
  • Experience implementing gender-responsive and safeguarding programs.
  • Experience delivering gender, inclusion, and safeguarding training.
  • Experience handling safeguarding/GBV/child protection cases using survivor-centered approaches.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Strong coordination, communication, reporting, and organizational skills.
  • Good English and relevant local-language skills.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to field locations.
