Global Women Empowerment Development Ethiopia (GWEDE) is a national, women-led and community-rooted civil society organization established in 2022.GWEDE works to advance gender equality, women’s and girls’ empowerment, food and nutrition security, resilient livelihoods, inclusive economic empowerment, WASH, protection, peacebuilding, and sustainable community development.

About the LEVEL UP Project
LEVEL UP is a three-year initiative designed to make Borena’s food system more inclusive, climate-resilient, nutrition-sensitive, and market-oriented.
The project strengthens women’s and female youth’s economic participation, leadership, resilience, and agency through three value chains:
- Poultry
- Irrigation-based horticulture
- Small ruminants
LEVEL UP operates across Arero, Yabello, and Gomole woredas.
Position: Cashier
Purpose of the Position
The Cashier is responsible for the day-to-day handling, custody, and recording of cash and near-cash at the LEVEL UP field office.
The position ensures that cash transactions are accurate, secure, properly authorized, and fully documented. The Cashier manages petty cash and payments, maintains the cash book, and safeguards project funds and cash-handling records under the supervision of the Field Accountant.

- Functional line to GWEDE Senior-Finance and Human Resource Officer, Head Office
Key Responsibilities
- Handle daily cash and near-cash transactions, including receipts, disbursements, and payments.
- Manage petty cash and prepare replenishment requests with complete supporting documents.
- Prepare payment vouchers and receipts and obtain required authorizations and signatures.
- Process approved payments to suppliers, staff, and training/event participants, including per diems and allowances.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date cash book and record all cash movements daily.
- Reconcile physical cash on hand with cash records at the end of each day.
- Safeguard cash, the safe/cash box, cheques, and other financial instruments.
- Make bank deposits and withdrawals and collect bank statements.
- Support the accountant with bank-related transactions and documentation.
- Apply tax and withholding deductions on relevant payments as instructed by the accountant.
- Organize, code, and properly file cash-related documents.
- Provide timely cash-balance and payment information to support cash forecasting.
- Assist with settlement and liquidation of advances.
- Support internal and external audits, cash counts, and verification processes.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of financial information.
- Comply with GWEDE financial policies, donor requirements, safeguarding standards, and code of conduct.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or BA/BSc in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in cashier, cash-handling, or junior accounting roles.
- NGO experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of cash-handling procedures, basic bookkeeping, and financial controls.
- Basic proficiency in MS Excel.
- Familiarity with accounting software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in Afaan Oromo and Amharic; basic English is an advantage.
- Experience handling cash for field activities in remote or pastoral settings.
- High level of integrity, reliability, accuracy, and attention to detail.
