Job Description
The Director of Risk Management and Compliance Services is responsible for leading and overseeing the company’s risk management framework and compliance systems. The position ensures that the organization effectively identifies, assesses, monitors, and mitigates operational, financial, regulatory, and strategic risks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement enterprise risk management policies and frameworks
- Identify, assess, and monitor organizational risks across all operational areas
- Evaluate the effectiveness of internal control systems and compliance procedures
- Provide independent assurance on operational, financial, and administrative activities
- Conduct periodic risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, insurance directives, and internal policies
- Provide risk management advisory services to senior management and the Board
- Review and monitor risk management strategies within insurance operations
- Prepare risk assessment reports and compliance evaluation reports
- Promote a risk-aware culture across the organization
- Monitor emerging risks affecting the insurance industry
- Coordinate compliance reviews and regulatory reporting requirements
- Support strategic planning by providing risk analysis and governance insights
- Ensure effective management of operational, financial, and reputational risks
Job Requirements
Education
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized higher learning institution
- Preferably Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII)
- Additional training in risk management, compliance, finance, or insurance operations is advantageous
Work Experience
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the insurance industry
- At least 4 years in a managerial or leadership position
Experience in one or more core areas of general insurance operations such as:
- Risk management
- Compliance and regulatory affairs
- Internal control or internal audit
- Underwriting operations
- Claims management
- Corporate governance
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of insurance industry regulations and governance frameworks
- Experience in enterprise risk management and compliance systems
- Strong leadership and strategic thinking ability
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to evaluate complex operational and financial risks
