Job Description

The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is seeking a Human Rights Officer, Women’s Rights to conduct day-to-day monitoring activities related to human rights across different sectors and levels, with a focus on the promotion and protection of women’s rights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor selected institutions to assess compliance with international and regional human rights standards.
  • Prepare monitoring reports with concrete remedial recommendations.
  • Conduct fact-finding missions and investigations into human rights abuses involving women.
  • Work with stakeholders, human rights actors, and communities to promote and protect women’s rights.
  • Draft human rights reports, communications, briefing notes, statements, and other documents.
  • Follow up on the implementation of recommendations, general comments, and concluding observations from relevant human rights bodies.
  • Prepare statistics and trend reports as required.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with government and non-government institutions, CSOs, UN agencies, private-sector organizations, and development partners.
  • Collaborate with international and regional human rights systems on women’s rights issues.
  • Support capacity-building activities and development of human rights training programmes.
  • Mainstream gender, women’s rights, and GBV considerations into relevant EHRC activities and programmes.
  • Participate in investigations involving women’s human rights violations.
  • Participate in discussion forums and joint programmes with institutions, organizations, and other NHRIs.
  • Provide technical support and inputs to groups and victims regarding women’s human rights.
  • Keep the Coordinator informed through regular reports on monitoring activities, progress, and challenges.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education

  • LLB in Law, Human Rights Law, International Law, or related field
  • LLM/MA in Law, Human Rights Law, International Law, or related field

Experience

For LLB holders:

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.

For LLM/MA holders:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of Amharic is required.
  • Knowledge of other local languages is an advantage.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written exam and interview.
