Job Description
The Junior Accountant will support the Finance Department in managing day-to-day financial operations and project-related financial activities. The role ensures that all financial transactions are properly executed, documented, recorded, and compliant with organizational policies and regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Financial Operations & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping and financial records.
- Prepare bank payment vouchers, checks, transfer letters, and payment requests.
- Record financial transactions in appropriate accounts.
- Prepare cash receipt invoices and maintain proper documentation.
- Ensure proper coding, stamping, and filing of financial documents.
2. Cash & Bank Management
- Manage petty cash and Telebirr replenishment.
- Conduct daily cash collection and ensure timely deposits.
- Prepare and reconcile bank statements.
- Control cash and bank balances; perform monthly bank reconciliations.
3. Tax & Compliance
- Prepare and submit monthly income tax, pension, and VAT declarations.
- Ensure compliance with EDA financial policies and procedures.
- Verify the appropriateness of payment requests before approval.
4. Payroll & Budget Support
- Prepare payroll and arrange timely salary payments.
- Administer and monitor approved budgets.
- Track expenditures against budget allocations.
- Prepare and follow up on payables (taxes, loans, etc.).
5. Project & Donor Financial Management
- Organize accounting records for different projects.
- Follow up on donor funds and sponsorship utilization.
- Provide financial input to procurement processes.
6. Administrative & Coordination Support
- Follow up on monthly utility payments.
- Collect bank statements and facilitate bank-related tasks.
- Maintain structured and organized financial filing systems.
- Work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure smooth operations.
Job Requirements
Education
B.Sc. Degree in Accounting and Finance.
Experience
2–4 years of relevant experience as a Junior Accountant.
Additional Training
- Computer training certificate (strong computer skills required).
- Proficiency in Peachtree accounting software.
- IPSAS training certificate is an advantage.
Technical Competencies
- Strong bookkeeping and financial reporting skills.
- Knowledge of tax declaration procedures.
- Good planning and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.

Language Requirements
Fluency in spoken and written English and Amharic.
