Light Vehicle Driver – Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS)

Job Summary

The Light Vehicle Driver will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely operation of ERCS vehicles to transport staff, volunteers, guests, goods, and materials.

The position requires responsible driving, regular vehicle inspection and maintenance, accurate recording of mileage and fuel consumption, and strict compliance with traffic regulations, organizational policies, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily vehicle checks, including oil, tires, fuel, water, and gauges.
• Transport ERCS staff, volunteers, guests, packages, and light loads as instructed.
• Ensure the assigned vehicle remains clean, safe, and in good working condition.
• Perform minor vehicle maintenance and repairs where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records of departure, arrival, mileage, fuel consumption, and other vehicle-related information.
• Ensure sufficient fuel, oil, and water are available and replenished when necessary.
• Check that vehicle tools, spare tires, and accessories are available and functional.
• Comply with traffic regulations and assigned schedules.
• Replace flat tires and arrange repair of damaged spare parts when necessary.
• Ensure vehicle loads remain within permissible limits.
• Arrange regular washing, lubrication, inspection, and servicing of the vehicle.
• Ensure the driving license is renewed according to applicable regulations.
• Report vehicle defects and malfunctions beyond personal repair capacity to the supervisor.
• Assist in verifying that vehicles have been properly repaired.
• Ensure the vehicle receives its required annual inspection.
• Perform other related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

Education & License:

• TVET Level II completed or 10th grade completed.
• 3rd Grade Driving License or equivalent.

Experience:

• 4–6 years of driving work experience.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong driving skills and road safety awareness.
• Good knowledge of vehicle operation and basic maintenance.
• Ability to conduct routine vehicle inspections.
• Ability to maintain accurate vehicle and trip records.
• Responsible and reliable approach to transporting staff and materials.
• Ability to follow organizational procedures and traffic regulations.
• Good time management and punctuality.
• Ability to identify and report vehicle faults promptly.
