Medium Truck Driver – Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS)

Key Responsibilities

• Transport goods, materials, and relief items safely to designated locations.
• Drive long distances and maneuver trucks during loading and unloading.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Check oil, water, fuel, tires, gauges, and general vehicle condition.
• Maintain accurate truck logbooks and records of transported materials.
• Record departure and arrival times, mileage, fuel, and lubricant consumption.
• Secure cargo using chains, ropes, blocks, covers, and other appropriate equipment.
• Load, unload, or assist with loading and unloading cargo.
• Carry out minor vehicle maintenance and repairs when required.
• Replace flat tires and arrange repair of defective parts.
• Report vehicle defects and malfunctions beyond personal capacity to the supervisor.
• Immediately report accidents and other road incidents.
• Ensure compliance with traffic laws, ERCS policies, and safety regulations.
• Keep the truck clean, lubricated, inspected, and in good working condition.
• Monitor fuel, oil, and water levels and refill when necessary.
• Maintain records of kilometers travelled and fuel consumption.
• Ensure the driving license remains valid and is renewed on time.
• Travel to different ERCS project and operational sites as required.
• Perform other related duties assigned by the Transport Operation Team Lead.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Requirements

Applicants should have one of the following:

• TVET Level III in Auto Mechanics/Automotive Technology — with 4 years of relevant experience; or
• 12th Grade completed — with 6 years of relevant experience; or
• 10th Grade completed — with 6 years of relevant experience.

Professional Requirement

• Minimum 4/6/6 years of relevant experience respectively, depending on educational qualification.
• Relevant experience as a Medium Truck Driver is required.
• Valid 4th Grade / Dry II professional driving license.

Required Skills

• Strong driving and vehicle-handling skills.
• Knowledge of basic automotive maintenance.
• Ability to identify common vehicle defects.
• Knowledge of traffic and road-safety regulations.
• Ability to maintain vehicle and fuel records accurately.
• Ability to travel long distances and work in different locations.
• Good communication, responsibility, and safety awareness.
