Job SummaryGIZ African Union is seeking a Project Coordinator for Digital Sovereignty in Africa to support the implementation of a project focused on strengthening digital independence and reducing dependency on foreign digital solution providers.
The project supports African governments by promoting knowledge exchange and practical approaches related to digital sovereignty, including open-source solutions, digital public infrastructure, domestic payment systems, and cloud architectures that support national control and resilience.
The Project Coordinator will work as part of the core project team and support project management, stakeholder coordination, knowledge management, communication activities, event organization, and contract administration.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Team Support
- Support the Project Director in ensuring effective collaboration among project team members.
- Organize and prepare project meetings, follow up on action points, and track deliverables.
- Support knowledge sharing and internal coordination processes.
- Assist in monitoring project activities and timelines.
Knowledge Management & Digital Sovereignty Promotion
- Develop and maintain an online knowledge platform focused on global digital sovereignty practices.
- Collect and share examples, news, and lessons from international experiences.
- Support knowledge exchange among digital policymakers, e-government experts, and technology stakeholders.
Research & Communication
- Identify relevant interview partners and support podcast preparation on digital sovereignty topics.
- Contribute to communication materials including:
- Fact sheets
- Social media content
- Knowledge products
- Support preparation of communication campaigns and outreach activities.
Stakeholder Engagement & Events
- Plan and coordinate events with government institutions, private sector stakeholders, and African Union member states.
- Support networking and collaboration among digital transformation actors.
- Maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Contract & Administrative Support
- Support preparation and management of contracts with experts and service providers.
- Assist with administrative processes related to project implementation.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
Completed university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in fields such as:
- International Relations
- Public Administration
- Communications
- Business Management
- Digital Transformation
- Related fields
Professional Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in areas such as:
- Digital policy
- E-government
- Digital transformation
- International organizations
- IT procurement
- Project management
- Communications
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Good understanding of digital transformation issues.
- Knowledge of:
- Digital public infrastructure
- Public procurement of IT solutions
- Cloud computing
- Digital policy and geopolitics is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical topics clearly.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
- Strong coordination and networking abilities.
