Job Description

The Senior Accountant (IFRC) is responsible for overseeing financial recording, reporting, reconciliation, and compliance activities related to core costs and project funds. The role ensures that all financial transactions are properly recorded, reconciled, cleared, and reported in accordance with ERCS policies, accounting standards, and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Recording & Reporting

  • Coordinate recording, analysis, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Prepare income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Ensure proper classification and coding of financial transactions.
  • Analyze monthly trial balances and quarterly financial statements.
  • Consolidate branch financial reports with National Secretariat accounts.

Ledger & Reconciliation

  • Verify posting accuracy in general and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Ensure equality of debit and credit balances.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and verify receivable/payable balances.
  • Ensure quarterly and annual clearing of receivables and payables.

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Ensure compliance with ERCS accounting manuals and procedures.
  • Organize documents for internal and external audits.
  • Verify salary deductions and financial accuracy.
  • Follow up on timely closing of core and project accounts.

Branch & Project Support

  • Provide technical support to branch offices.
  • Follow up and facilitate timely branch financial reporting.
  • Ensure project financial reports are prepared according to donor commitments.

Reporting & Performance

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, biannual, and annual performance reports.
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes and systems.

Job Requirements

Education

Second Degree / First Degree in Accounting, Accounting & Finance, or Accounting Software.

Experience

  • 6 years (Master’s) or 8 years (Bachelor’s) of relevant experience.
  • 3–4 years in a senior accounting position is required.

Skills

  • Strong accounting and financial reporting expertise.
  • Experience in financial consolidation and audit preparation.
  • High attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
