Job Description

Mother and Child Development Organization is seeking a Senior Finance Officer to strengthen financial management and ensure compliance with donor regulations and national financial standards. The position will support financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and internal controls while supervising finance staff and coordinating financial operations across the organization

Key responsibilities

Financial Management & Transactions

  • Manage payments (cash/check) and cash collections while maintaining accurate bank and cash registers.
  • Oversee petty cash utilization, replenishment, and proper voucher documentation.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are authorized, documented, and compliant with donor and tax regulations.
  • Review, verify, and properly file financial documents and supporting records.

Budgeting, Monitoring & Compliance

  • Monitor advances and floats, ensuring timely settlement and proper reporting of receivables and payables.
  • Verify payment documentation, coding, and authorization before processing transactions.
  • Apply statutory deductions including income tax, withholding tax, and pension contributions.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement procedures and proper coding of expenditures.

Payroll & Staff Financial Administration

  • Administer pension funds and staff benefits for both field and head office employees.
  • Prepare monthly payroll tax and pension schedules and reconcile them with the general ledger.
  • Ensure timely settlement of government obligations related to payroll.
  • Process final payments for departing staff according to HR policies.
  • Maintain payroll files and update monthly payroll records.

Financial Oversight & Reporting

  • Monitor financial performance and provide analysis to support decision-making.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation and records.
  • Address backlog issues related to staff salaries and benefits.
  • Support the finance department with additional financial management tasks as required.

Qualifications & experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in finance or accounting.
  • Previous experience working in the NGO sector is highly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Tally, Sage, or Xero.
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
