Job Description

The Senior Finance Officer plays a central leadership role in managing the Foundation’s financial systems, strategic financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and compliance. The role ensures financial integrity, strong internal controls, donor compliance, audit readiness, and sound financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Produce liquidity reports and management accounts.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide strategic insights to leadership.
  • Ensure timely donor and regulatory reporting compliance.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead preparation of annual and project budgets.
  • Monitor budget utilization and advise program managers.
  • Ensure alignment with donor requirements and strategic goals.

Strategic Financial Planning

  • Develop long-term financial sustainability strategies.
  • Conduct financial modeling and scenario analysis.
  • Provide risk mitigation recommendations to leadership.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS/IPSAS and Ethiopian tax regulations.
  • Lead internal and external audit processes.
  • Monitor adherence to donor agreements and reporting timelines.
  • Strengthen internal control systems.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise and mentor finance staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Oversee payroll processing and financial procedures.

Operational Financial Control

  • Manage cash flow forecasting and bank monitoring.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
  • Validate procurement and vendor payments.
  • Ensure secure financial documentation and record keeping.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • CA or equivalent professional certification preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in donor-funded project finance.
  • Proven leadership and managerial experience.
  • NGO financial management experience is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS or IPSAS standards.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Peachtree, SAP, or other ERP systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas).
  • Strong knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws and donor compliance requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Addis Ababa Head Office.
  • Occasional travel to field offices.
  • Standard working hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM.
  • Additional hours may be required during reporting deadlines.
