Job Description

Save the Children Ethiopia seeks a Finance Specialist – Control and Compliance to strengthen financial controls, compliance, audit readiness, tax management, and balance sheet oversight. The role supports effective financial systems and ensures compliance with donor, statutory, and organizational requirements across the Ethiopia Country Office.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Controls & Compliance

  • Manage balance sheet accounts and perform monthly reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely processing and reconciliation of HQ transactions.
  • Support online bank reconciliations and Single Account Reconciliation (SAR).
  • Monitor and report the status of control accounts and balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reconciliations.

Tax & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Ethiopian tax regulations.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly VAT schedules.
  • Process VAT recoveries and reclassification of rejected VAT balances.
  • Ensure timely remittance of withholding taxes.
  • Maintain complete tax records and supporting documentation.
  • Conduct analytical reviews of taxes and statutory deductions.

Audit & Risk Management

  • Support statutory audits and external project audits.
  • Coordinate audit documentation and auditor requests.
  • Monitor implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Strengthen financial controls to reduce donor disallowances and compliance risks.

Financial Systems & Reporting

  • Ensure monthly amortization of insurance and prepayment accounts.
  • Monitor account clearing and reconciliation processes.
  • Support financial reporting and control procedures.
  • Collaborate with global finance teams and country office departments.

Other Responsibilities

  • Promote compliance with Save the Children policies and procedures.
  • Support fraud prevention, anti-corruption, and ethical compliance initiatives.
  • Travel to field offices as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in finance, accounting, or compliance.
  • Experience in INGOs or large corporate environments.
  • Experience managing large budgets (USD 50 million+ preferred).
  • Strong understanding of Ethiopian tax and statutory regulations.
  • Experience in financial controls, audits, and compliance management.
