Job Description

The Senior Finance Officer will support the Finance Manager in managing the organization’s financial and accounting functions. The role focuses on ensuring strong financial controls, compliance with donor regulations, and accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage daily financial and accounting operations.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Post supplier invoices and batches in the Serenic system.
  • Review and reconcile supplier statements before payment processing.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and closing of accounts.
  • Process accounting entries including depreciation, payroll, and adjustments.
  • Review financial transactions processed by accountants and cashiers.
  • Prepare draft financial reports and management accounts for review by the Finance Manager.

Budget Monitoring

  • Monitor timely submission of departmental budgets.
  • Review budget proposals to ensure accurate financial representation of activities.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation both electronically and in hard copy.
  • Conduct regular financial reviews with budget holders.

Donor Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure donor financial policies and procedures are followed.
  • Support preparation and submission of donor financial reports.
  • Maintain schedules of donor reporting deadlines.
  • Participate in donor budget development and proposal preparation.
  • Maintain proper documentation for grants and donor reports.

Logistics & Inventory Coordination

  • Coordinate with logistics teams regarding supplier issues.
  • Participate in inventory verification and stock management when necessary.
  • Represent the finance department in procurement and logistics activities.

Personnel Management & Capacity Building

  • Supervise finance staff and support their professional development.
  • Mentor accounting staff to build internal capacity.
  • Provide financial orientation and training to new staff.
  • Support training for financial and non-financial managers.

Audit & Compliance

  • Assist with internal and external audit processes.
  • Ensure financial documentation is properly stored and secured.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial information.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conduct supervision visits to field offices.
  • Represent the finance department internally and externally.
  • Ensure transparent financial management in line with organizational policies.

Job Requirements

Education

Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience
  • At least 4 years in a similar finance role
  • Experience with non-profit or conservation organizations preferred
  • Experience working with donors such as
  • USAID
  • European Union
  • United Nations agencies
  • Private foundations

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP / IFRS)
  • Experience with ERP accounting systems
  • Financial analysis and data interpretation skills
  • Budget management and donor reporting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
